A) Nature reserves

In the province of Trapani there are 10 nature reserves. The reserves are defined as oriented because orientation means that the management of the area is intended to direct and encourage the maximum development of flora and fauna through appropriate interventions. Instead, integral reserves are those which are oriented to the protection and development of flora and fauna, but this goal is integrated with the scientific one. In particular, it is worth mentioning, the Santa Ninfa Cave Reserve, which is an integral area since in that reserve, thanks to the presence of the cave, Speleological surveys are carried out.

When the regional law n. 98/1981 speaks of reserves as areas of general interest, it means that they should be enjoyed by everyone, including people with disabilities and that is why we have also examined the nature reserves, particularly the territorial ones. All reserves have a parking area for motor vehicles, except that of Mount Cofano. Exceptionally, in the Reserves administered by the Province of Trapani, specific permits are issued where necessary for the entry of vehicles with disabled people on board. However all the areas other than Mount Cofano are accessible to visitors.

All reservations include a rest area for motor vehicles, except that of Mount Hood . Exceptionally , in the reserves managed by the Province of Trapani , if any were necessary , are released with the appropriate permissions for the entry of vehicles with disabled people on board . However all facilities, always excluding that of Mount Hood , the reserves are accessible to visitors.

B) State-owned picnic areas

Connected to the nature reserves there are picnic areas, some of which are located within the same reserves. In the state-owned facilities it is possible to enjoy a picnic thanks to the presence of cookingpoints (barbecues), tables and seats. In the 14 picnic areas examined (source: State forestry website) have a total of 1682 seats and on average each area extends for 1 hectare and a half.

The picnic areas are accessible all year round and eight areas are partially accessible to persons with disabilities. These areas are: Balestrate- Baronia-Belvedere-Biro- Madonna Ciavolo-Scorace-Sinapa and Trinità Marcita. The other areas are not accessible due the morphological characteristics of the naturalterrain.
